Limit use of the affected system

For sewage backing up into the property, stop adding water through fixtures connected to that system and keep people and pets away. Do not keep flushing or running appliances to test whether it has cleared.

If a clean-water leak is active and you know the appropriate shutoff and can reach it safely from a dry location, shutting off the supply may limit damage. Do not enter standing water near energized equipment or force an unfamiliar valve.

Give the office useful information

  • Property location and a callback number.
  • What is happening now and which fixtures or rooms are affected.
  • Whether water is still flowing, sewage is entering or there is no water.
  • Known well, utility or wastewater arrangement.
  • Any electrical damage, flooding or unsafe access.
  • Recent repairs and any steps already taken.

What a call can establish

Ask about current service availability and the initial diagnostic scope. A call or email does not automatically schedule an appointment, guarantee an arrival time or authorize a repair.

For a public water-main issue, utility interruption or active water notice, contact the responsible provider as well. A private plumber and a utility have different responsibilities.
