Tank size and drawdown are different
A pressure tank stores water using a compressed-air cushion. Drawdown is the water available between the operating pressures, not the entire labeled tank volume. Tank design and system settings determine that usable amount.
Compare operation with and without demand
Tell the professional whether cycling happens during water use or when no known fixtures are open. Note any irrigation, treatment cycles or leaks. A leaking valve or plumbing connection can resemble a tank problem; controls and water supply also need evaluation.
Observe without opening equipment
From a dry, safe location, note visible gauge behavior, sounds and model labels. Do not open switch covers, repeatedly reset a breaker or add air to a pressurized tank. A corroded or damaged pressure vessel deserves professional attention.
What a useful diagnosis includes
Ask the technician to document operating pressures, leak checks and the tank’s condition using the manufacturer’s procedure. Pump performance and electrical findings should be recorded when relevant. Replace the part supported by evidence rather than treating every pressure complaint as a tank failure.
