Cleaning is more than opening a path
A cable may restore flow through an obstruction while material remains on the pipe wall. A jetting setup uses pressurized water and selected nozzles to address deposits in a different way. The useful comparison is the condition each method can address, rather than a claim that one machine is always superior.
Equipment capability alone does not determine suitability. The operator must consider the pipe material, diameter, known damage, available access and where loosened material can travel.
Questions that change the scope
| Condition | Planning question |
|---|---|
| Grease accumulation | Which branches and main line are included, and where is the receiving interceptor? |
| Recurring roots | Is cleaning intended as maintenance, or is there a documented entry point to repair? |
| Suspected damaged pipe | What inspection or access is needed before aggressive cleaning? |
| Limited access | Can equipment reach the affected section, and what remains beyond reach? |
| Occupied business | What shutdown, access and cleanup arrangements are needed? |
A useful before-and-after record
- Access point and the direction of work.
- Sections reached, with distances described as equipment readings when appropriate.
- Material observed and whether visibility was limited.
- Post-cleaning flow observations and camera footage when feasible.
- Any section that could not be reached and the recommended next step.
Set maintenance from conditions
There is no single cleaning interval that fits every home or business. Usage, grease handling, pipe condition and the history of backups matter. A restaurant’s maintenance plan should be based on its actual records and operating pattern.
Ask whether the quoted price includes inspection, cleaning, waste handling and access preparation. Any warranty should be stated in writing. Cleaning a line does not guarantee it will never clog again.
